Becoming an RN is the major role of many students that want to belong to the health care community. Although they realize that being a registered nurse can be very challenging, they know that a nursing career is very rewarding both personally and professionally.

Those who commit to be an RN want to be prepared for years of study and practice. Although theoretic classes will provide the necessary knowledge in the different health care subjects, practice will be crucial for the registered nurse to gain expertise in the field.

During practice, the registered nurse is in contact with patients and with the duties she will have to preform when she gets her licensure. Among other duties, the nursing student has to check the patient’s vital signs, administer medication, start IV lines, and keep the patient’s records updated with daily information.

Becoming an RN is really very tempting but there are some factors that should be taken into consideration when deciding for this career. The registered nurse requirements are not only about skills but also physical demands. A RN should be in good shape physically to be on her feet all day while doing her shift. Extra strength might be needed if the nurse needs to lift patients.

Also the registered nurse must have a good and strong immune system to handle the infections, virus and bacterias she will be in contact with while taking care of her patients.

Usually nurses have to work within a team and must follow instructions and orders from superiors. Therefore, good communication skills are required, not only to communicate with the patient’s family and the patient himself, but to deal with the team.

After general and in field education is finished then it is time to proceed with the NCLEX-RN test. This test was created by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and tests the student’s skills in order to certify them as RNs. This test is the one that will provide the registered nurse with her licensure.

After the becoming an RN process is finished, and the nurse is finally a registered nurse, she is prepared to enter the health care marketplace.
